Art Nouveau Sterling Match Safe Holly & Berries 1900s.
This fabulous Art Nouveau sterling silver match safe has a repoussé decoration of holly and berries. Both front and reverse are hallmarked STERLING at top of the base. Monogrammed LRC in an ornate script on front. Reverse is plain. Totally intact gold wash interior. Striker on bottom. No maker's mark that I can find. Though the item appears to be "pitted", I can't help but wonder if that isn't part of the original design since it definitely adds to the overall look as does the "blackened" hollows between the holly leaves and berries. This is one handsome rare piece! width: 1-3/4", length: 2-3/4", depth: 7/16".
