KSA01Vintage MONTEROS TAXCO 970 Silver Malachite Cleopatra Bib Necklace. This is a rare, incredible MONTEROS Mexican 970 silver and malachite necklace executed in the highly coveted Cleopatra Bib style. This awesome piece weighs in at a little over 226 grams or 8 ounces. The necklace is composed of 36 fluted and beveled segments that are designed to follow the natural contours of your neckline. Despite its substantial weight this necklace is as comfortable to wear as it is impressive and eye-catching to view. From the closure (on each side to center with malachite) there are 6 two-tiered segments, 6 three-tiered segments flanking the 12 four-tiered central segments with malachite at the ends.   It is hallmarked MEXICO MONTEROS M970, with the M standing for MONTEROS and 970 representing the silver purity; TM-100, noting the piece was crafted in Mexico's renowned "Silver City" TAXCO with the number 100 being the registration number issued to the MONTEROS silver workshop by the Mexican government. These identical hallmarks are all listed on page 122 of "The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks, 2006 Edition" by Billie Hougart.   The MONTEROS workshop was a high-end TAXCO silver house that specialized in extremely high-end works of silver art usually with various semi-precious gemstone inlays. This necklace dates to the late 1970s or early 1980s and sold for about $1200.00 at that time. It is of no less value today. It is stunning and spectacular, a sensuous, fully articulated Mexican masterpiece. Dimensions: segments measure: 1-1/8" at the widest with 1/4" malachite and 5/8" at the narrowest; depth: 1/4"; inner circumference: 14-1/4".
